Storing Children's Hand Me Downs & More

Good Morning!!  Hope you all had a fabulous Memorial day!

Last week I showed you the storage closet that I organized and told you that I would share more about what I store inside the bins. Today I'm showing you a peek inside.

One of the bins holds home décor, two house Halloween costumes, but most of the bins consist of clothing.  Some are filled with my winter clothes and  maternity clothes, but the majority of the bins hold my boys’ hand me down clothing, shoes, winter gear, sports gear and such.

While re-organizing this closet the other week, I went through each of the bins and got rid of  some of the items inside.  Those items went into the garage sale. More on the garage sale coming soon.

I had the bins semi-organized and sort of labeled before, but decided that it was time to put large, easy to read labels on them.  I recently received an email asking if I offered large editable labels for bins so…
…these ones are now available RIGHT HERE in my shop.  The great thing about these labels is that you can type whatever wording you want.
Not only does the newborn bin have newborn clothing, but I also store bottles, blankets, baby towels and anything else that I would be using for a newborn baby that fits inside.
I didn’t photograph every single bin, but as far as the boys’ hand me down clothing, I have separate bins for the following:
  • Newborn 0-6 months
  • Boys 6-12 months
  • Boys 12-24 months
  • Boys 2 & 3 years
  • Boys 4 & 5 years
  • Boys 6 year
  • Boys 7 year
  • Boys 8 year
  • Boys 10-12 year
  • Boys shoes
  • Sports gear
Once my boys outgrow the size that they’re in,  I simply go to this closet and switch out the clothing in their drawers/closets, replacing them with the new sizes and adding the clothes that are too small for them to the proper bin.
Super easy!  I’ve had this system for 12 years now and it works just great.
I have a separate bin for boys hand-me down shoes too.
Inside the big bin, I’ve organized the shoes by size in small Dollar Tree shoe bins.
The way that I’ve stacked the shoes, the lids don’t fit, but since these are inside another bin, I’m okay with that.  I just store the lids inside, in case I decide to use the clear shoe bins for something else someday.

I have a separate bin for winter hats & gloves and…
… winter jackets and ski pants for the little guys.
and a few different bins for some of my clothing.
and...
and ...
Inside this closet I also have 2 large bins of Halloween costumes too.
and that’s what I store inside this closet and how I store my children’s hand me down clothing.
To label the bins in this closet, I used these editable labels that are now available in my shop.  You can use them for whatever you want, for personal use only.

Wishing you all a delightful and productive week!  May you be a little inspired!

Until next time,
DaNita

Organizing an Out of Control Storage Closet

I have this great closet, right off my boys’ toy room.   It’s just a long, narrow closet and I use it as a storage closet.  It’s kind of my “attic” or “basement” storage, as I don’t have either.
I have YET to show you the rest of my upstairs toy room, because I have yet to finish it. I plan to (hopefully) soon!! and I promise, when I do finish it, I will show you.  If you missed it you can see how I’ve organized the toys in the upstairs playroom HERE, HERE and HERE.

See that door off my half finished toy room? It leads to the disaster closet. The door has a lock on it, because it’s my storage closet and I don’t want the little ones digging through the bins inside.

However, my little guys are getting bigger and they keep finding the key to get inside.  BUT now that I’ve cleaned it out, I hid the key, where ONLY I can find it. So if they need something from inside, they need to talk to mama. ;)

I’ve said before that if you are building a new home and have the option to plan for plenty of storage, do so.  That’s what I did and I am SO glad that I did.  Anywhere and everywhere that I could find extra space, I would add a niche or a closet.

NOW what you probably shouldn’t do with that extra storage space is let it get the way that I’ve let mine get these past few months.

Be prepared, because what I’m about to show you is real life here in this Delightful Order house. It’s certainly has become quite un-delightful and I MUST show you because there are way too many of you who think that my home is never out-of-order and that it’s this perfect place, always clean and orderly.  For real, we do live here and it’s NOT always perfect.  Messes are made, un-organization is here, OFTEN… trust me!!
GASP!! … this is really how it looked when I opened the door.  I couldn’t walk to the back of the closet if I wanted to. BUT allow me to explain…

… most everything on the floor is garage sale stuff (the garage sale happened this past weekend and I plan on sharing that with you later.)  If you’ve ever planned and hosted a garage sale then you know how crazy busy the weeks ahead can get.

I had gone through  just about every stitch of every square inch of my home and the garage sale bins that I keep in the garage were completely filled, the little closet in the garage that I also stash garage sale stuff was overflowing, so the rest ended up in this closet…
… and that’s my reason for this dis-order.
The other week, I spent some time taking the closet over.
First thing I did was clear the entire closet out and vacuumed it.
Next, I hung up the bags and small suitcases.
With simple hooks that I had screwed on the wall.
I put the empty suitcases and backpacks on the wire shelves.
I’ll show you more details on how I’ve organized the bins in another post.
and now, I can walk to the back of the closet…
… without a problem.

Now take a peek at the before and after’s together:

So much better!! That’s it, this closet has gotten a little Delightful Order and it feels great to have it done. :)

Tell me, do you have a closet that you feel is out of control and you need to "take it over" or have you "taken over" a closet lately?  Do share, I'd love to hear from you.

May you be a little inspired!

Until next time,
DaNita

Organize a Ladies "Grab & Go" Tool Bag & a Thirty-One Giveaway

Good Monday morning! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend. Hope all you moms out there had a relaxing Mother’s day! I did and I am so blessed to be the mother of my four boys.  They are great kiddo's and like I told them yesterday, I am so lucky to their mom! Love my little guys, they sure are cool.

Okay, so onto today's post...  I just have to ask, how many of you have seen the Thirty One products? I just LOVE them and today, I'm so excited to be able to give you all a chance to WIN one of their All-In-One Organizer Bags!

Amanda, from Thirty-One contacted me a little while back and wanted to give one lucky Delightful Order reader one of these awesome organizers.  SO today is your chance to ENTER to win!

These organizers are so great and can be used for so many different things!  Not only does thirty one have bags and totes of all kinds, but they also have bins, baskets, home organizers, purses, clutches, wallets, thermal totes, backpacks and much more and everything is absolutely adorable!  Such fun colors and designs.

I received an all-in-one organizer last week and created myself a “grab & go tool bag”, which I’m super excited about! I’ve been wanting something like this for quite some time and the thirty one bag ended up working just great.
Now when I need to hang a wall hanging, window treatment, hook or anything, I just grab this organizer and go,
and what I love is that everything I need is all in one location and easy to transport from room to room.
This is what I’ve placed inside: screwdrivers, stud finder, measuring tape, pencils, hammer, level, scissors, screw gun and inside the clear containers are organized screws, nails and extra wall hanging material.

I found these little separator containers at Wal-Mart in the beading section.  They work just great for organizing screws, nails and such.
The All-In-One organizer has elastic side pockets,
which is so great.
and straps to hang it on a hook, door knob or wherever.
and that’s how I’m using the all-in-one organizer and I totally LOVE it!!

You can use it as a cleaning tote, baby shower gift, pedi/mani tote, organize hair accessories, craft supplies or tub toys, pet grooming kit, first aid kit for the car, shower caddy for camping, game bag, dvd/cd organizer, mobile office, homework bag, teacher tote, picnic tote and so much more.

ALSO… Delightful Order followers can receive an exclusive 10% discount for orders placed from now until May 20th.  For every $31 you spend, get the All-In-One Organizer for $5 – The $31 is BEFORE the discount.  This makes the organizer only $4.50! Here’s how to order to receive the discount:

1.  Shop Online:  You can shop through the event link and place your order online.  Please Note: you will NOT see the discount in your cart BUT your credit card will NOT be charged until Amanda adjusts your total to include the 10% off discount and the event is closed.

2.  Order by Email:  You can email your order to Amanda at amanda_strong@ymail.com.  She will then adjust your invoice and you can pay via debit or credit card.

Organizing My Recipe Inspiration

Last week I showed you how I organize my family favorite recipes.  Today, I’m sharing  how I organize my recipe inspiration.  I’m talking about those recipes that one spots and says “mmmm… that sounds yummy, I think I’ll make that someday.”  So how does one keep track of all those different recipes?

Me, well when I find a recipe online, I PIN it to Pinterest, under the recipe category. Simple as that.  When I’m looking for a different recipe to make, first I go to this binder that you're about to see, next I go looking on my pinterest.  If I decide to try it that week, I print the recipe. If I think it’s a keeper, it may possibly be transferred onto my recipe cards and added to our family favorite binder, which is the spot I go looking first while I plan our meals for the week.

With all those recipes that I spot in a magazine or book, I tear them out, or make a copy of them, depending on the magazine or book.  To keep them all organized I use another binder that looks just like the favorites binder.
I used the same printable package that is available to purchase in my shop:

click the image above to be directed to this item in the shop.

but with a different cover page.
the tabs are the same.  Those are part of the printable pack. Simply print, cut-out, fold and staple on.
I created a different side label too.
AND the biggest difference with this binder vs. my favorites binder is the inside pages.  My family favorites has recipe cards, protected in 4 x 6 photo sheet protectors.  In this binder, I use full page 3-hole punched sheet protectors (you can find them at any office store.)
mine are from Office Depot.
100_8523
I simply inserted each divided page from the printable set that I created into the sheet protectors.  I laminated the ones in my family favorites binder.
and I actually stapled the tabs directly onto the sheet protectors.
Inside each section, I put recipes that I’ve torn out magazines.
Super easy peasy!
:)
100_8529
or copies of recipes that I’d like to try someday into go into the sheet protectors.
I keep a bunch of extra sheet protector pages in the back of the book, which makes for easy additions.
And that’s it.  I store our Family Favorites Binder and this Recipe Inspirations binder in my baking cabinet next to all of my recipe books.

Do you have a different way of organizing all your recipes that you’d like to try someday?  Or what about those family favorites?  Do share, I’d love to hear from you.

May you be a little inspired!
Until next time,
DaNita
